The South Indian Film Industry honoured the stalwarts of Indian film Industry to commemorate the 100 years of Indian cinema in Chennai yesterday. President Pranab Mukherjee along with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr. Jayalalitha presented the medal.

Mega star Amitabh Bachchan, veteran actress Vyjayanthimala, lyricist Javed Akhtar and Sridevi were honoured amongst other legends of this profession from every region of the country for their contribution to the Indian cinema. While veteran actors like Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, Randhir Kapoor, filmmakers like Ramesh Sippy and Boney Kapoor were spotted attending the event.

''In what can be described as a most generous and considerate gesture, the South Indian Film Industry celebrates 100 years of Indian Cinema and decorates all the elders and legends of this profession, not just from the four prominent states - TamilNadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka - but from every region in the country. From Assam to Punjab, to Maharashtra and Bengal ... what a humbling experience! The President of India comes down to Chennai to give away these decorations in a most efficient and cultured programme ... short, crisp and with a decorum that signified the ethos of the region. I am overwhelmed and so are many that came along. Many whom we had not met in years were there to just lend support to the event... Rajni and Kamal and the old time directors and artists who have shaped the Industry and brought name and fame to this profession ..,'' posted an elated Bachchan on his blog.
